It seems U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell will not let the Republican Senate health care bill die a dignified death. His new proposal is to sell two different kinds of policies - cheaper policies that do not meet the Affordable Care Act guidelines, and more expensive ones that do.
This completely ignores the purpose of insurance, which is to pool risk, so that no one goes unprotected. If younger, healthier people do not buy in to the system, older, sicker people will pay extravagantly at a time in their lives when they are least able to do so.
If we cannot understand that all our fates are deeply intertwined - so much so that compassion is a survival skill - perhaps we could at least realize that we are all going to be old one day, and we are all going to be sick. Is this the system we want to be in place?
If this is not all right with you, please contact your senators.
