Norwalk man accused of drunken driving crash with minors in the car

Dec. 10--NORWALK -- A city man caused an accident in East Norwalk while he was driving drunk with three minors in the car, police said.
Police responded to reports of a car crash on East Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Witnesses told police that John Deacy, 62, of Lorena Road, ran a red light at the Winfield Street intersection and caused the accident.
Police said a staggering Deacy exited his car briefly to check the damage, before he re-entered it and fled from the scene. Deacy's car was later located at his Lorena Road home.
Deacy, who was found outside the home, was uncooperative with police, Lt. Terry Blake said. Blake said a brown paper bag with four bottles of flavored vodka, one of which was empty, was found in the car.
Police later learned that three teenagers had been in the car at the time of the crash, Blake said.
Deacy refused to take a breath test at the scene and he was arrested. He was charged with driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle, evading responsibility, driving without minimum insurance and failure to obey traffic controls. He was held on $2,500 bond and given a court date of Dec. 20.
The state Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.
