Jan. 22--An early-morning house fire in Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island burned for over two hours Monday, according to a news release from Hilton Head Fire Rescue.
No one was injured, although four units in the Moorings Villas neighborhood were damaged.
The fire was down the street from the Dunes House, a restaurant and meeting place for Palmetto Dunes homeowners and their guests.
Four fire engines, three medic units and several fire officers responded to the fire on Dune House Lane around 1:15 a.m.
When fire rescue arrived, all occupants of the units had safely evacuated, the release said.
The fire was controlled around 3:30 a.m., although fire engines remained on the scene until 10:30 a.m. Monday.
The fire, which Fire Rescue said was accidental, damaged the entire roof of the building and the two second-floor units, the release said.
The building sustained smoke and water damage throughout the bottom two units, according to the release.
Fire Rescue personnel will meet with insurance investigators this week to determine the cause, as is common in fires that are ruled accidental.
