Nevada Insurance Commissioner Richardson Accepts Recommendation for Network Adequacy

CARSON CITY, Nevada, Nov. 6 -- The Nevada Department of Business and Industry's Insurance Division issued the following news release:

Commissioner Barbara Richardson officially accepted the Network Adequacy Advisory Council's recommendation for the establishment of additional standards to use in evaluating each health benefit plan network for Plan Year 2020. The Council submitted their recommendations to the Commissioner on September 14, 2018.

The Commissioner accepted the Council's recommendation on September 19, 2018. The Council recommended splitting Mental Health providers and having separate requirements for Psychiatry, Psychology, and LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Workers).

The Commissioner's formal acceptance and a copy of the Council's recommendation are located on the Division's website at http://doi.nv.gov/Insurers/Life_and_Health/Network_Adequacy_Advisory_Council/.

A workshop and hearing will be scheduled to implement the Council's recommendation as a temporary regulation for Plan Year 2020 policies. To view the dates, times and agendas for the hearings, please visit the Division's website at http://doi.nv.gov/News-Notices/Meetings-Hearings/.

In addition to the acceptance of the recommendation, the Division is currently accepting applications for individuals to represent consumers or consumer groups to fill a recent vacancy on the Network Adequacy Advisory Council.

The Network Adequacy Advisory Council is composed of 9 members appointed by Nevada's Insurance Commissioner Barbara Richardson. This Council was created under the Network Adequacy Regulation R049-14 to recommend additional standards for determining whether a network plan is adequate.

The Council will be reconvened early 2019 to begin the process for Plan Year 2021.
