National Healthcare Provider Retains Prime TSR to Upgrade Hundreds of Servers Prior to July 2019 SQL Server 2008 Support Deadline

PR Web

CHICAGO (PRWEB) October 24, 2018

Prime TSR, a Chicago-based technology modernization consultancy, today announced that it has been retained by one of the largest healthcare service providers in the U.S. to upgrade 140 database servers across 28 hospital systems running on the Microsoft SQL Server ecosystem. This undertaking will ensure the company's regulatory compliance when security support for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 is discontinued on July 9, 2019.

Scheduled for completion in June, the massive upgrade effort will include compatibility and performance certification of the company's claims processing and patient facing applications with Microsoft SQL Server 2017 and Microsoft Azure SQL.

This engagement underscores the need for organizations running SQL 2008 to take appropriate measures to upgrade prior to the July deadline in order to reduce exposure to compliance infractions, data loss, and security breaches, which can lead to significant fines, legal penalties and reputational damage. According to Prime TSR, this is a particular concern in heavily regulated industries such as healthcare, where SQL servers may no longer be compliant with Personal Identifiable Information (PII) or HIPPA regulations. Additionally, because of the GDPR, non-compliance may also impact an organization's ability to conduct business in Europe.

"This looming deadline means that companies can no longer get by delaying the migrations from SQL Server 2008. However, those that are diligent and driven to take action have several options to ensure the security of their data," said Eugene Khazin, principal and co-founder of Prime TSR. "For companies that may have been holding off or reluctant in the past, this situation also presents a new opportunity to realize the benefits of moving to cloud."

In parallel with this announcement Prime TSR has released a white paper that outlines the steps and considerations needed to remain compliant. Although upgrading to a supported version of SQL will ultimately be the answer for most organizations, Prime TSR spells out interim alternatives including the stop-gap compatibility solutions, migrating to Azure SQL and extended security upgrades. For each compliance option, the paper identifies associated costs, time, complexity and risk factors.
