National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Issues Comments on Flood Insurance Extension

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, Dec. 26 -- The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies issued the following statement by Jimi Grande, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, on the extension of the National Flood Insurance Program to May 31, 2019:
"It is great news for the millions of Americans who rely on the National Flood Insurance Program for protection from flood losses that Congress heeded our call to avoid a lapse, even amidst the partisan rancor of a government shutdown.
"However, the program is still in great need of reform and a reauthorization that will bring predictability and stability to the marketplace.
"The incoming Congress must do more, in both the House and Senate, to ensure that a long-term reauthorization with meaningful reforms are in place by the next deadline to ensure that flood insurance coverage remains available and affordable for all Americans.
"With a short-term extension, the NFIP now expires one day prior to the beginning of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season.
"It is critical Congress ends the gridlock on this issue and provides both the needed reforms and long-term certainty so that we won't find ourselves in the same position five months from now."
