N.H. Dems: Governor Sununu Pushes for Massive Cuts to Medicaid Program
Targeted News Service (Press Releases)
CONCORD, N.H., March 1 -- The New Hampshire Democratic Party issued the following news:
Over the weekend, Governor Sununu and President Trump met to discuss Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion.
In the meeting, Sununu told Trump "block grants are great and I'm a very strong believer in that," despite the fact that block granting Medicaid would lead to huge federal funding cuts for New Hampshire. In fact, Republican Governor Charlie Baker has sounded the alarm on block granting proposals, saying he is "very concerned that a shift to block grants...for Medicaid would remove flexibility from states as a result of reduced federal funding."
And today, Sununu doubled down on his support for repealing the Affordable Care Act, even though he couldn't guarantee that a Republican replacement plan would cover everyone covered under the ACA.
"Governor Sununu's push for block grants demonstrates that he is towing the Trump Party line and has no idea how Washington Republicans' decisions would lead to huge federal funding cuts and hurt New Hampshire," said NHDP Chairman Ray Buckley. "Now, Sununu is also saying that Granite Staters can't be guaranteed to have coverage under a Republican replacement plan. New Hampshire needs a Governor who will stand up for the health and economic well-being of New Hampshire, not blindly follow Donald Trump and Washington Republicans."
