Michael Embry Announced as President of NAHU

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

SOUTHFIELD, MI, July 6 -- The National Association of Health Underwriters issued the following news release:

Michael Embry was recently named president of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) Board of Trustees at the 87th Annual Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, FL.

After accepting the gavel from outgoing President Jim Stenger, Embry vowed to reinforce NAHU's mission: to educate consumers and lawmakers about the value that health insurance agents and brokers bring to the healthcare system and, through education and association involvement, to increase NAHU members' ability to better serve consumers.

"We are pleased to welcome Mike as the president of NAHU. He has consistently shown impeccable leadership and commitment in serving our members. He is an incredibly passionate individual and he has worked hard to make sure agents and brokers are able to continue assisting their clients in this new health insurance marketplace," said Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO.

For the past 33 years in the insurance industry, Embry has dedicated his career to specializing as an independent agent in health insurance and employee benefits. In 1989, he founded and ran his own small benefits planning agency. He then went on to create the Employee Benefits Division of Comerica Insurance Services, Inc., until 2014 when he purchased the practice from Comerica. Currently, Embry is the founder and president of Comprehensive Benefits, Inc. His areas of practice are small group benefits, mid-size group benefits, worksite voluntary benefits, and small and mid-size self-funded plans.

Since 1993, Embry has been an active member of NAHU. Before being elected to NAHU's Board of Trustees, he served as the Region III vice president from 2010 through 2013. Embry is a Soaring Eagle qualifier of the Leading Producers Round Table. Also, he has held numerous leadership positions in Michigan, including president of Michigan Association of Health Underwriters (AHU), president of Metro Detroit AHU and legislative chair for both the Metro Detroit and Michigan AHU as well as Region III HUPAC chair. Embry has been the recipient of the Legislative Achievement Award, Distinguished Service Award, and annually receives the Triple Crown award since its inception in 2004.

"I look forward to leading the membership of NAHU as president and continuing to promote the value and importance of the professional health insurance and employee benefits agent," Embry said.

Embry currently serves on the Southeast Michigan Agent Advisory Council for Priority Health. As a leader in his community, he has served as a member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Leadership Class. Embry resides in Chesterfield, MI, with his wife, Jeanne, and has two adult children, Michael Jr. and Laura.

The National Association of Health Underwriters represents 100,000 professional health insurance agents and brokers who provide insurance for millions of Americans. NAHU is headquartered in Washington, DC. For more information, please contact Kelly Loussedes at 202-595-3074 or [email protected].
