Mercy Fort Smith plans health fair Friday

Oct. 31--The Medicare open enrollment process can be confusing, so Mercy is offering a free events in Fort Smith to help answer questions about insurance and other senior health topics.

The Aging Well Senior Health Fairs will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith Hennessy Education Center, 7301 Rogers Ave.

The health fair will be during Medicare open enrollment, which began Oct. 15 and ends Dec. 7. The event is open to all who are or soon will be eligible for Medicare, will include information on contracted Medicare Advantage plans, Mercy providers and services, and community resources. Participants will be able to enroll in a Medicare product if they choose, according to a Mercy news release.

"Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Mercy service lines, community health partners, Medicare Advantage Plans and traditional Medicare," Kevin Moran, Mercy's director of payor relations and contracting in Arkansas, says in the release. "There are a lot of options for people eligible for Medicare. This event will give them the chance to gain a better understanding of their choices when it comes to health care, insurance and Mercy services."

The free events will feature a variety of vendors and programs that are dedicated to serving and caring for seniors:

--Meet with Medicare Advantage plans to learn more about plan offerings.

--Find answers to your Medicare coverage questions from local independent insurance agents.

--Learn about Mercy's senior-focused services.

--Get information about community services available to seniors.
