ManorCare nursing home in Elizabethtown changes hands, is now part of Guardian Elder Care

An Elizabethtown nursing home has changed hands, the former owner confirmed this week.

HCR ManorCare spokeswoman Julie Beckert confirmed in an email that Guardian Elder Care took over on July 18. She referred all questions to Guardian, which did not respond to phone and email messages Tuesday.

The 73-bed home at 320 S. Market St. was formerly known as ManorCare Health Services Elizabethtown, and is now called Elizabeth Manor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, state records show.

According to Guardian’s website, the privately-owned company was started in 1995 and is based in Jefferson County in northwestern Pennsylvania.

The site says Guardian has more than 4,300 units across 40 skilled nursing, personal care and independent living facilities in Pennsylvania, five in Ohio and one in West Virginia.

As of Tuesday, Guardian’s map showed that its nearest facility is Forest Park Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Cumberland County. The Elizabethtown facility was not yet represented there.

The other home

Ohio-based HCR ManorCare and the other organizations involved have consistently declined to comment on what will happen at its other Lancaster County facility, the 172-bed ManoreCare Health Services Lancaster at 100 Abbeyville Road.

As LNP previously reported, HCR ManorCare declared bankruptcy in March, and initially announced plans to turn control of its more than 500 facilities nationwide to Quality Care Properties Inc., which owns many of the buildings.

But then in April, the organizations announced a different plan: Real estate investment trust Welltower and nonprofit health system ProMedica would form a joint venture to buy the facilities by this fall, with ProMedica operating them.

No further information was available Tuesday.
