Nov. 21--SCHROON LAKE -- Farmers here lost five goats and two barns in a fire at 257 Alder Meadow Road.
Schroon Lake Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched around 6:47 p.m. Wednesday.
The barn that housed the animals and a separate hay barn were both leveled by the blaze. The owners don't have insurance on the property, Fire Chief Paul McCann Jr. said.
Nancidee and Dennis Holland own the place, according to Essex County Real Property records.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation, the chief said Wednesday afternoon.
The barns were fully involved when he arrived, and firefighters attacked the blaze from the outside.
North Hudson Volunteer Fire Department was assigned to set up a pumper at a fill site near a bridge not far from the burning barns, at 331 Alder Meadow Road.
Mutual aid was also provided by departments from Chilson, Pottersville and Ticonderoga.
