SHINE PRESENTATION

Medicare's Open Enrollment has begun. Join HESSCO's Director of SHINE, Kathy Chianca, at the senior center on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. as she answers Open Enrollment questions in a group setting. Don't miss this informative program as you make decisions on your health insurance coverage for 2025. Please sign up in advance to reserve your seat.

MAH JONGG TOURNAMENT

Join us on Friday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for our Mah Jongg Tournament at the Foxboro Senior Center. The cost is $10 if you pre-register and $15 at the door on the 22nd. One year of playing experience is recommended, but not required. We will be using the 2024 NMJL Card., so please bring yours. Points based on NMJL Scoring. Some additional penalty points may apply. Rules will be available for consulting at the Director's table. Simple table rotation will be indicated on your score sheet. Register by emailing [email protected] or by talking with David Lescoe at the Tuesday Mah Jongg Group at the senior center. Lunch is included. Five winner prizes plus Door Prizes will be awarded.

BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD MEDICARE PLANS

Are you a Blue Cross member or looking to change your Medicare Health Plan, then this presentation is for you? Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. when a representative will be at the senior center and will be covering Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare plans and will also be presenting 2025 product changes. Attendees will learn about the 2025 benefits and understand the differences between Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Supplement Plans. Plans covered will include: Medicare Advantage Plans (Medicare HMO Blue and Medicare PPO Blue), Medicare Supplement Plans (Medex-Core, Sapphire and Bronze). Register in advance.

COMMUNITY CENTER "

HARD HAT" TOURS

Would you like to go on a tour of our new Community Center? This activity, open to all residents, will be scheduled in small groups when it is safe to tour through the new (to us) building during construction. To be added to the list, please register at the senior center. Groups will be scheduled on a first come/first served basis.

THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS IN BOSTON

Join us at the senior center on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 3:45 p.m. when historian Anthony Sammarco will be here to give valuable insight into all the Thanksgiving traditions in Boston over the generations. Noah Webster described Thanksgiving as "The act of rendering thanks or expressing gratitude for favors or mercies," and it has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789. Governors of Massachusetts would proclaim a local holiday of Thanksgiving, but it was Sarah J. Hale, the editor of Godey's Lady's Book, who promoted a national day of Thanksgiving. It was during the Civil War under the presidency of Abraham Lincoln that Thanksgiving became a federal holiday in 1863. Please sign up in advance if you'd like to join us.

2025 TRIP TO ALASKA

If you've always wanted to visit Alaska, or if you've been to Alaska and have always wanted to go back for a re-visit, this is your chance! The Foxboro Senior Center's "Big" trip for 2025 will be to Alaska from August 12 through 23. This trip will be a 12-day, 11-night land and cruise tour. We'll start off our trip with an overnight in Anchorage, followed by 2 nights at the Denali Princess Lodge and 1 night at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. Then we're off on a 7-night cruise on board the Sapphire Princess Cruise Ship visiting Hubbard Glacier, Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan, Inside Passage and Vancouver. Don't miss this trip of a lifetime. Registration for Foxboro residents begins at noon on November 7 and non-resident registration will begin at noon on November 14. A current passport is required. WARRIOR WITHIN YOGA

On Tuesdays, Nov. 12 – Dec. 17 at 5 p.m., Warrior Within Yoga for Veterans, First Responders and their families will be held at the senior center.

This beginner friendly free yoga program is coordinated through Foxboro Veteran Services and is facilitated by the Warrior Within Yoga Project. This program is accessible to all ages for those who served and their families. Please sign up in advance at the senior center or call at 508-543-1234.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION AT THE AQUATURF CLUBJoin us on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, when we begin our celebration of St. Patrick's Day at the Aquaturf Club in Plantsville, CT. We will be leaving Foxborough at 8:30 a.m. from the side parking lot of St. Mary's Church at 58 Carpenter St., and we'll traveling by motorcoach to the Aquaturf Club.

We will be enjoying the music and entertainment of Padraig Allen and the McLean Avenue Band, watch some Irish Step Dancers and have a luncheon featuring Corned Beef and Cabbage, as well as Baked Scrod, served family style. Also included is coffee and donuts, and a glass of wine or beer. You'll even have a chance at a door prize before we leave. The cost is $140 per person for Foxborough residents and $150 for non-residents. Registration for this trip with payment has begun. Don't miss out on the fun!

HOLIDAY PARTY AT LAKEVIEW PAVILION

The holiday season is just around the corner! Join us for our annual Holiday Celebration at the Lakeview Pavilion in Foxboro on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 12:30 to 3:30p.m. The menu includes your choice of Honey Crumb Chicken or Herb Crusted Cod. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. There will be a cash bar. The cost for Foxborough residents is $35 per person and the cost is $40 for non-residents. Tickets are now on sale at the senior center and must be paid for at the time you sign up to get your ticket and reserve your seat.

'SUNRISE' CARDIO WORKOUT

On Mondays at 8:15 a.m. you can start your week off right with the "Sunrise" Cardio Workout video series program. Lauren, with Senior Shape Fitness, offers a 30-minute workout that is perfect for seniors and beginners. This program is perfect for those who want an easy workout first thing in the morning. Sign up in advance to let us know if you'll be joining us.

MEN'S BREAKFAST

It's time for the men to enjoy our great Men's Breakfast at the senior center every month during the upcoming fall and winter months. Our next Men's Breakfast will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8:45 a.m. The cost is $3 per person. You must sign up in advance with your payment.

SENIOR SUPPER

There will be No Senior Supper in the month of November.

LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER

Left, Right, Center, or LRC, is a simple, yet very fun game. There is no skill needed to enjoy playing and it's an opportunity to meet new friends. If you have never heard of this game, it is VERY easy to play. Join us starting Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 1:15 p.m., and continuing monthly every 2nd Wednesday at 1:15. Please sign up in advance.

NOVEMBER MOVIE DAYS

The theme for our Movie Days in November is "Documentaries." The following movies will be shown on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m.: "If These Walls Could Sing" (2023) – For more than 90 years, Abbey Road Studios has been at the heart of the music industry. In this personal film of memory and discovery, Mary McCartney guides us through nine decades to see and experience the creative magic that makes it the most famous and longest-running studio on the world. From classical to pop, film scores to hip-hop, "If These Walls Could Sing" explores the breadth, diversity and ingenuity of Abbey Road Studios.

HEARING HEALTH

On Wednesdays, Nov. 13, & 20, Dec. 4, 11 & 18 there are Hearing Clinics offered at the senior center from 1 to 3 p.m. This program is free and provides a hearing screening, ear wax removal, hearing aid cleaning and service by appointment. Call in advance to schedule a 20-minute appointment.

REFLEXOLOGY

On Friday, Nov. 15, and on the 3rd Friday of each month, the senior center is offering reflexology appointments from 9 a.m. to noon. Reflexology is based on stimulating specific points on the feet that correspond to other areas and organs of the body. Reflexology is used to restore the body's natural equilibrium by improving circulation and reducing tension. This relaxing and rejuvenating experience will involve aromatherapy infused reflexology. The cost is $45 per half hour appointment. Sign up with your payment to schedule an appointment.

LUNCHEON OUTING

Our next luncheon outing will be on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the La Familia restaurant in South Easton. Call us to sign up by Monday, Nov. 16 and meet us at the restaurant on the 20th. For those who require van transportation, arrangements must be made by 11 a.m. on Tuesday the 19th.

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC

Blood Pressure Clinics are available at the senior center on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. by appointment. The next clinics will be held on Nov. 12 & 26. Please call the senior center at 508-543-1234 to set up an appointment.

FOOT STABILITY AND ANKLE MOBILITY

Steve Avellino's next Thursday class, "Foot Stability and Ankle Mobility for Better Balance and Pain Relief," is a six-week program and is designed to make our musculoskeletal system function the way it used to. Once we improve our foot stability and ankle mobility, the knees, hips, and spine work and feel better. The muscles of the core become organized which results in better balance. These classes will be held on the following Thursdays at 9 a.m.: Oct. 31, Nov. 7, 14, 21, Dec. 5 & 12. The cost is $42. Sign up in advance with your payment.
