Leader Pelosi Issues Statement on Republican Campaign to Sabotage ACA Enrollment
Targeted News Service (Press Releases)
WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 -- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued the following statement after reports that enrollment in Affordable Care Act marketplace plans through HealthCare.gov had declined while enrollment in state-administered marketplaces increased:
"From day one, President Trump has cynically and purposefully worked to undermine enrollment in the affordable health coverage available on HealthCare.gov. On his first night in the White House, he issued an executive order to pour uncertainty into the future of the insurance marketplaces. Soon thereafter, it was revealed that President Trump had also abruptly canceled much of the advertising and outreach efforts that help remind Americans to complete their applications on HealthCare.gov.
"Now, Republicans will cynically point to the dip in enrollment they caused, declare the Affordable Care Act broken, and move to steal the affordable health coverage of every American. Meanwhile, in states committed to delivering affordable health coverage to their residents, enrollment in the Affordable Care Act's marketplaces has surged. Washington, New York and Maryland have all reported record numbers. California has even extended the deadline until Feb. 4 to accommodate a surge in enrollment.
"Democrats will continue to stand our ground to ensure that every American has access to affordable health coverage."
