Kevin P Landry Law Offices Announce 2016 “Help Save Lives Don’t Text and Drive” College Scholarship Opportunity

PR Web

Providence, RI (PRWEB) March 25, 2016

Kevin P Landry Law Offices announced today that they would be awarding $1,000 college scholarship to a student who wants a post-secondary education in the United States. The purpose of the scholarship is to create awareness about the dangers of texting and driving on the American roadways.

According to a recent report released by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), using cellphones while driving increases the risk of an accident. Much of the increase can be attributed to texting while driving, which is responsible for nearly 25% of all accidents and 11 teen deaths daily. In fact, 1 out of 4 accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.

Further research by the Centers for Disease Control and prevention reveals that texting while driving is more dangerous than drinking and driving. Currently, 46 states have banned text messaging for all drivers but it's not yet clear whether it has reduced crashes.

"The minimal amount of time your attention is taken away from the road when you are texting is 5 seconds," says attorney Landry. He continued, "Just reaching for your mobile phone to reply to a text puts you at an increased risk of an accident. Our firm is not only determined to obtain the best results for our clients but it's also determined to keep all drivers safe on the roads."

In order to change the behavior of texting while driving, people need to accept their personal responsibility and make a conscious decision not to text and drive.

To help foster this idea of self-responsibility, the firm is inviting students who have already enrolled or are planning to enroll in University, college or other post-secondary institution to prepare an essay detailing what they can do to help save lives by preventing texting and driving.

Applicants should be US citizens or be authorized to work in the U.S. The essay should be no more than 500 words and all applicants should pledge not to text and drive within the essay.

All applicants should include their name, email address, home address, phone number, college name and address of the college they are attending or plan to attend in the fall of 2016. The winner of the scholarship will be notified via email on 1st June 2016.

The submission deadline is April 1, 2016 and the scholarship will be made payable on June 1, 2016. For more information about the scholarship and how to submit your essay, click the link below: http://klandrylaw.com/law-office-locations/personal-injury-lawyer-providence-ri/

"Higher education is not cheap. If we can give someone an opportunity to study and at the same time create awareness of the dangers of texting and driving, I think it's worthwhile," Says Landry. "People think that our only job as attorneys is to win cases but we have taken the initiative to prove that we too can make a difference in our society. This is a first for us and we hope to award more scholarships in the near future."
