Insurance company sues Lincoln woman who got jail, probation for stealing from landfill

Lincoln Journal Star, The (NE)

June 01-- Jun. 1--York County's insurance company has sued a Lincoln woman who they say embezzled more than $100,000 from the landfill in the less than two years she worked there.

Lynn Rasmussen, 60, got two years of probation and 90 days of jail time, including 60 days that can be waived by the court, on a misdemeanor theft charge for it in January.

At that time, Rasmussen had agreed to pay restitution of nearly $12,600, according to York County District Court records.

But in a lawsuit filed Thursday in Lancaster County, EMC Insurance Companies, which insures the City of York, alleged that while Rasmussen ran the scale house at the York Area Solid Waste Agency, she voided $107,824.20 in receipts between October 2014 and July 2016 and deposited the cash into her personal bank accounts.

As a result of her acts, EMC said, it paid York or others on the city's behalf $95,000, and now is seeking the money from Rasmussen.

The company's attorney, Tara Holterhaus, said Rasmussen so far has failed to pay.
