Instead of Continuing to Prop Up Obamacare, Lawmakers Should Deliver Relief to Americans

Targeted News Service (Press Releases)

ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 15 -- Freedom Partners, a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization, issued the following news release:

The Congressional Budget Office has issued a new report on Obamacare's Cost-Sharing Reduction payments, which insurers and other special interests claim must continue in order to "stabilize" Obamacare's collapsing exchanges.

Freedom Partners believes the best way to provide relief to millions of Americans - especially those most in need - is by fully repealing Obamacare and reforming health care, not continuing to paper over the law's fundamental failures with billions of tax dollars.

Freedom Partners Spokesman Bill Riggs issued the following statement:

"Insurance companies have been benefitting from these illegal payments for years, but millions of Americans have still ended up with skyrocketing premiums, fewer choices, and coverage they can't use. These payments aren't 'stabilizing' the market, they're subsidizing special interests. Instead of wasting more hard-earned tax dollars to prop up Obamacare, lawmakers should rescue the millions of Americans suffering from the law's collapse by repealing it."

BACKGROUND

Obamacare's unappropriated CSR payments have been flowing illegally to insurers since 2014, yet insurers have been steadily fleeing the law's exchanges and raising premium rates each year.

In fact, despite all of these billions of dollars in subsidies to insurers, HHS recently reported that premiums for individual market plans have more than doubled since Obamacare's key provisions took effect.

Almost a full year ago, a Princeton University health economist said that Obamacare's exchanges had entered a death spiral. Today's report does nothing to change the fact that Obamacare is failing and simply throwing more taxpayer money at the problem won't deliver the relief so many Americans need.
