Inaugural Class of UNC Physician Assistant Program Featured by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina, Nov. 30 -- The University of North Carolina School of Medicine issued the following news:

A way to make positive changes in her community - that's how UNC Chapel Hill student Eulalia Barajas-Graham views her fast-approaching career as a physician assistant. Her story was told in an article (http://blog.bcbsnc.com/2017/07/turning-passion-practice-glimpse-uncs-inaugural-physician-assistant-class/) published on the website of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC. The major health insurance company partnered with the UNC School of Medicine to start a physician assistant (PA) program four years ago within the Department of Allied Health Sciences.

In the article Barajas-Graham described past efforts to make her Robeson County community a healthier place. She decided to leave a career in banking to become a PA like her husband. She chose to be a part of the UNC PA program and will be one of its first graduates on December 16. She said, "UNC appealed to me because of its reputation, and I liked that it was associated with a medical school program."

Barajas-Graham looked back on her time in the two year program and remarked on how much support she felt from classmates and professors. "Everyone is so helpful and really wants to make sure that everyone is learning as much as they can and understanding all the material," she said.
