Hurricane Irma: FEMA to hold town hall meeting Friday in Bonita Springs

Sept. 19--FEMA will host a town hall meeting Friday night, where residents affected by Hurricane Irma can learn how to receive financial assistance.

Bonita Springs Mayor Peter Simmons invites residents to participate in the meeting that begins at 6 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 9751 Bonita Beach Road.

Bonita Springs residents with losses due to Hurricane Irma are eligible for Federal Disaster Assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. FEMA representatives will be at the town hall meeting to discuss FEMA eligibility and answer questions.

Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in Bonita Springs can also pre-register for FEMA assistance before the Town Hall Meeting by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Disaster assistance applicants, who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

Applicants will need the following to apply:

* Social Security Number

* Daytime telephone number

* Current mailing address and address and zip code of the damaged property

* Private insurance information, if available.

By registering for federal assistance on www.DisasterAssistance.gov

* Look up an address to find out if it is in a disaster area declared for Individual Assistance.

* Check the status of an application and get updates by SMS or email.

* Upload documents to support the application.

State Sen. Kathleen C. Passidomo and state Rep. Ray Rodrigues will also be in attendance.
