"Living donors should not face discrimination or unnecessary hardships because they have helped someone in need, but this is unfortunately not the reality some living donors face," said Nadeau. "They have made the selfless decision to save the life of a family member, friend or even a stranger. There is no reason any living donor should be turned away or charged more for insurance."
Nadeau's bill protects living organ donors by prohibiting insurance companies from denying them coverage or increasing their premiums for life insurance, disability insurance and long-term care insurance. Living organ donors are individuals who donate an organ - a kidney, lobe of a lung or a portion of the liver, pancreas or intestine - to an individual in need.
