Hot Topics in Risk Management Covered at the Coverys Risk Management Seminars

PR Web

Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 12, 2016

Healthcare executives, risk management and quality improvement leaders, physicians, nursing directors, and other healthcare professionals are invited to join liability insurance provider and risk management leader Coverys for thought-provoking presentations and rich discussions about the most pressing and contemporary issues in patient safety today.

Coverys' 2016 Midwest Regional Risk Management Seminar takes place August 24-26, 2016, in three Midwest locations:

  • Attendees may participate in the live audience in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for three days.
  • Satellite presentations of the main conference will be available in Madison, Wisconsin, or West Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, August 25 where attendees will benefit from real-time, virtual interaction with the speakers as well as valuable networking with colleagues.

The conference theme this year is "Risk Management in 2016: What You Need to Know to Keep Your Patients Safe." Dr. Geri Amori, Coverys Education Vice President of Academic Affairs, says, "Summer is a great time for networking with friends and colleagues while experiencing pragmatic and stimulating education. The Midwest Regional Risk Management Seminar features presentations, panel discussions, and pre-conference workshops on topics that are at the heart of safe and quality care in both inpatient and outpatient settings."

This year, the Midwest Seminar explores topics such as the prevention of diagnostic errors, crossing professional boundaries, new approaches to EMR safety, how to work with the risks of lead in water, and techniques for caring for behavioral health patients enterprise wide. During the closing session of the main conference, Coverys will host a panel on considerations for the care of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients. Coverys will be simulcasting the panel for those who are unable to attend the seminar. Register for the LGBT panel simulcast here.

In addition, the seminar will cover best practices in patient safety and presentations on new tools and processes for reviewing patient safety events, chronic opioid therapy management, managing complex care in the emergency department, the impact of organizational culture on patient safety, and best practices for perioperative care.

Conference presenters include Gordon D. Schiff, MD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School; Dean F. Sittig, PhD, of the School of Biomedical Informatics in The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the UT Houston-Memorial Hermann Center for Healthcare Quality and Safety; Hernan F. Gomez, MD, of the University of Michigan's medical toxicology program; Monica Cooke of Quality Plus Solutions, LLC; and other esteemed clinicians, scientists, and patient safety experts.

Seminar attendees will be eligible for continuing education credits: up to 15.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits for physicians and up to 14.90 contact hours for nursing professionals.

Coverys is offering another Risk Management Seminar on Friday, October 14, 2016, or Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Healthcare journalists interested in attending the seminar should contact Loren LeVasseur at 617.946.8665 to arrange a press pass and to coordinate interviews with conference presenters or Coverys executives.
