Hoeven Statement on the Senate Passing Legislation to Enable Repeal and Replacement of Obamacare

WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 -- The office of Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., issued the following statement after the Senate passed a bill enabling Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare:
"The American people have made clear that they want Congress to repeal and replace Obamacare. In fact, in a recent Gallup poll, eight out of 10 Americans said they want to see it either significantly changed or replaced altogether. Under Obamacare, they have seen their premiums and deductibles rise, and their ability to see the doctor of their choice diminish. They want reforms that will make health insurance affordable and put patients first.
"Today, the Senate passed a measure that will enable Congress to repeal Obamacare and in a systematic way replace it with a personalized, patient-centered health care system that gives all Americans access to quality, affordable care. For example, that will likely include allowing expanded health care savings accounts, the ability to choose a plan that best fits one's needs, better facilitating the sale of health insurance policies across state lines and other measures that will help to reduce the cost of insurance and increase consumer choice.
"This is the first step of the process. The Senate will now have to pass reconciliation legislation that will repeal Obamacare and begin a careful and orderly transition to replace it with a health care system that empowers people to choose their own health-care provider and insurance."
