Hartford metro area among the top five ‘best-paying’ cities for millennials, a new report says
Hartford Courant (CT)
We may complain about the taxes or the cost of living here in Connecticut, but the Hartford area actually is one of the top five best-paying cities for millennials in the country, according to a new report.
Fabric, a Brooklyn-based startup specializing in financial planning for families, analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau to come up with their list of the best-paying cities for those born between 1981 and 1996.
The Hartford metro area -- composed of Hartford, West Hartford and East Hartford, in the report -- is ranked No. 4 among large cities. Fabric considered metro areas with at least 1,000,000 residents as large cities.
The median earnings -- where half the salaries are above, half below -- for full-time millennial workers in the Hartford area is $49,116, when adjusted for the cost of living. The unadjusted median earnings is $50,000. For comparison, the median unadjusted earnings for workers of all ages in the Hartford area is $60,000.
The report notes that the Hartford area’s median home price is $251,579, and the cost of living is 2% above the national average. If it makes you feel better, the cost of living in the Boston and Seattle metro areas is 12% above the national average, the Washington, D.C, area is 18% above, San Francisco is 28% above and San Jose, Calif., is 31% above.
The three large U.S. metro areas that rank better than Hartford, according to Fabric, are San Jose, Calif., at No. 1; San Francisco at No. 2; and Boston at No. 3. The Seattle metro area fills out the top 5.
