Free legal clinic offered for Hurricane Harvey victims
Caller-Times (Corpus Christi, TX)
Oct. 27--The Corpus Christi Young Lawyers Association in conjunction with other groups is hosting a free legal advice clinic for those affected by Harvey.
The association is working with the San Antonio Young Lawyer Association and the Community Justice Program to provide legal advice on things like FEMA assistance, property damage, landlord/ tenant issues, employment issues, government benefits, insurance questions, family law issues and lost documents, according to a news release.
"Everybody has completely different issues, so they'll get an intake form, they'll fill it out, and then they'll meet with a lawyer," said Louis Williams, president of the Corpus Christi Young Lawyers Association.
No appointment is necessary. The clinic is open Nov. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Christopher's By the Sea Episcopal Church in Portland.
According to the news release, the clinic is funded by a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation.
"As soon as the storm hit, everyone wanted to, you know, try to help out the best way we can," Williams said. "As lawyers this is our skill, providing legal advice, so this is just a natural fit for us.
