Florida Hurricane Irma Recovery Tops $5 Billion in Federal Assistance

ORLANDO, Florida, Sept. 26 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:

More than two years after Hurricane Irma devastated the Sunshine State, federal, state, local and non-profit partners continue to move Florida's recovery forward. To date, more than

$5 billion in federal funds have been provided for recovery efforts.

By the numbers:

* More than $712 million in housing assistance was provided to survivors who registered for the FEMA Individual Assistance Program in 51 eligible counties;

* More than $308 million was provided in FEMA Housing and Other Needs Assistance grants for rental assistance to households, home repair or replacement, lost personal property and other expenses not covered by individual insurance;

* Nearly $1.06 billion in National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) claims have been paid to homeowners and businesses;

* More than $1.4 billion in Public Assistance (PA) grants have been obligated to eligible governments and non-profits in 67 counties for the cost of cleanup, rebuilding of infrastructure and to reimburse state and local governments for emergency response costs;

* More than $1.43 billion in U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans have been approved for both homeowners and businesses.

* More than $108 million in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding has been provided to fund projects aimed at reducing future losses and to increase community resiliency statewide.

FEMA remains committed to continuing its support to Florida's recovery from Hurricane Irma, working together with local communities and the state to rebuild safer and stronger while lessening the burden on State and local community budgets in the near and long term.
