Jul. 5--FORT COVINGTON -- An early morning fire here on the Fourth of July led to a total loss.
Fort Covington Fire Chief Tim Webb said the cause of that 4:16 a.m. blaze at 52 Foster Road remained under investigation as of Thursday afternoon.
"Everybody made it out safe," Webb said. "The pets made it out safe."
FIRE REKINDLED
According to Franklin County dispatch, Fort Covington fire crew received mutual aid from the various departments of Bombay, Westville, Hogansburg, Bangor and Moira.
Flames were put out at about 9:30 a.m. or 10 a.m., Webb said.
"We had just gotten our trucks back in service, but it actually had a rekindle," he said. "We had to go back."
Webb said the crew had been readying their firetrucks for Fort Covington'sFourth of July parade, which was to start at noon that day, when they got the second call.
"We just made it back in time for (the parade)," he said.
RED CROSS AIDS
The fire chief could not identify homeowners or if they had insurance, but a North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross press release says four adults were involved.
Red Cross provided financial assistance for necessities, like food and clothing to those adults, the release says.
"Volunteers also offered emotional support and comfort kits containing personal care items," it continues.
"In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery."
