Feinstein: Affordable Care Act Stable, Challenges Can Be Solved
Congressional Documents & Publications
Washington--Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement after Ohio announced that Care Source would offer insurance in Paulding County, the last county in the nation that didn't have an insurer under the Affordable Care Act's exchange system:
"With the announcement that Care Source will offer insurance in Ohio'sPaulding County, every county in the country will have at least one insurance company offering health plans during the upcoming open-enrollment period. More than 75 percent of consumers in the individual market will have at least two plans to choose from, and 32 percent will have at least four.
"Republicans and President Trump often say the Affordable Care Act is 'dead' or 'imploding.' As this news further illustrates, these statements are flat-out wrong--a political ruse. When states work with insurance companies to address challenges in the individual market, those challenges are solved.
"There's more work to be done to strengthen the individual market, and I'm hopeful that bipartisan Senate hearings next month will result in proposals that can attract broad support. One such plan is my bill to eliminate the cliff for tax-credit subsidies that results in many older, middle-class Americans spending 20 percent of their income on premiums. This would result in 1.2 million more people signing up for insurance and would decrease premiums overall."
