MALVERN, Pennsylvanai, Aug. 17 (TNSeve) -- The Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society has scheduled a conference session as part of its In2Risk 2021 on Sept. 24, 2021, entitled "Ethics of Big Data in Evaluating Risk":

Using big data to evaluate risk--how can you keep it ethical? As the use of big data in risk assessment increases, it is more imperative than ever to identify the ethical issues in insurance pricing and underwriting. Using various scenarios, this session will help you understand the different approaches to determining how and when to use big data ethically.

Speakers:

* James Jones

Jim Jones is the Executive Director of the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management at Illinois State University. The Katie School supports over 500 students majoring in risk management and insurance (RMI)actuarial science, or other majors who are interested in careers in insurance. Jim works with Katie School staff, the Dean of the College of Business (COB), industry executives, departments chairs, and faculty in helping to develop talent for industry.

Jim undertakes and facilitates workshops on emerging areas such as insurance analytics, co-develops computer simulations, creates case studies, podcasts, websites, and discussion forums to support virtual learning.

Jim works with College Greenlight Community Based Organizations, Project InVEST, the ISU MHSSA program in analytics, and multiple insurers in attracting talented students from underrepresented groups to Illinois State University.

Jim works directly with students in developing and facilitating student research projects including topics including: Cyber Risks and Insurance, The Use of Drones in Insurance, Autonomous Vehicles, and Flood Insurance for Urban Areas, Systems Thinking, and the Role of Insurance in Supporting Community Resilience, and The Fairness of Telematics.

Jim does presentations for both academics and industry and has presented various insurance topics for audiences around the world. He has presented on leadership and ethics to over 6000 people in the past ten years. Jim's presentations topics include how to attract and retain college graduates for insurance careers, the ethical implications of big data and automation technologies in insurance, the use of co-curricular experiences to develop talent, and the economic impact of insurance on society, and managing a remote workforce.

Jim has written and edited 3 textbooks and conducts research in index crop insurance in Africa and is a member of the Microinsurance Network and best practice group of climate change and food security in developing countries. Jim has published 6 research papers on developing inclusive insurance, and managing the risk of climate change for smallholder farmers in Africa.

Jim has served in a leadership roles at the Illinois Life and Health Guaranty Association, the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, The Loman Foundation, The CPCU Society, and Western Risk and Insurance Association.

Director of Underwriting at Florida Peninsula Insurance Company, Sarasota, Florida, since February 2014. Mike has more than 40 years' experience, creating innovative processes in underwriting and pricing, in the insurance industry. Has worked for MunichRe/American Modern Insurance, Auto Club Group, Kemper Insurance and SAFECO Insurance in various roles including underwriting, marketing, sales, product management and executive leadership.

Served as CPCU Society President in 2017 and 2017-2018 President of the Underwriting Executives Council. Over the past 25 years served the CPCU Society as Leadership Council member, Chapter Governor, Chair of the Champions Advisory Committee, Chair of the Interest Group Task Force, and President of the Cincinnati and Northwest Chicago Chapters.

Past volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement of Chicago, Insuring the Children of Cincinnati, and Project InVest Florida. Married with two grown children and two grandchildren, enjoys golf, biking and woodworking.
