Oct. 05--The president is coming to North Carolina Saturday, fresh off his tour of hurricane hot spots. He's coming to Greensboro on Saturday for a $2,700-per-person fundraising dinner, at the home of businessman Louis Dejoy and his wife, former state Health and Human Services Secretary Aldona Wos. Dejoy is a big-time GOP fundraiser and donor. He gave tens of thousands to the Trump campaign and is clearly set to give more.
There's a bit of irony in the dinner's timing: It comes on the weekend of the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Matthew's deadly flooding of North Carolina. Gov. Roy Cooper and his cabinet won't be available for meetings with the president because they'll be out on a day of service, commemorating the disaster by working on recovery projects.
We doubt that the president is all that handy with a hammer, but we know he's pretty good with greenbacks. So perhaps, given the recent interruption of federal funding for Matthew recovery, he can arrange to donate the proceeds of the Greensboro fundraiser to hurricane relief here. He's had a breathtaking look at more recent hurricanes, so maybe he'd like to help us continue our recovery here, which is nowhere near complete.
What do you say, Mr. President: Can you spare us a dime?
