While I was having my hair cut yesterday, my stylist noticed breaking news of the earthquake in Mexico on her phone. She said, “I think the Earth is angry with us.”
Thinking of the multiple destructive hurricanes within the past few weeks as well as the previous earthquake in Mexico, I had to agree. Then I thought about other people’s reactions:
Scientist: These natural disasters are an effect of global warming! We must take drastic steps to prevent further climate change and reverse it if possible.
Industrial lobbyist: How unfortunate so many natural disasters are happening. We must rally to ensure they are not attributed to climate change.
Democratic politician: Surely people will see these natural disasters mean Democrats should take over both houses of Congress and the presidency?
Republican politician: How do we prevent these natural disasters from affecting our predetermined agenda on denying climate change and repealing Obamacare?
Fundamentalist Christian: These natural disasters are God punishing us for lax morals, same-sex marriage, abortion, (fill in more blanks as appropriate).
Donald Trump: These natural disasters are terrible. We must help those unfortunates killed or injured. Now, back to drastically cutting health care!
