Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: KS-03 GOP Candidates Refuse to Denounce Affordable Care Act Lawsuit

WASHINGTON, July 22 -- The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued the following news release:

Last night, the crowded field of out-of-touch Republican candidates running to represent Kansas' 3rd Congressional District faced off in yet another pre-primary forum - and health care was front and center.

The forum came as the Trump Administration and Washington Republicans are suing to undo the entire Affordable Care Act in the middle of an unprecedented global pandemic that has infected over 20,000 Kansans. Asked point-blank whether they support the Administration's lawsuit, not a single candidate had the courage to say "no."

The candidates' unwillingness to stand up against the Administration's lawsuit comes as Amanda Adkins, Sara Hart Weir, Adrienne Foster, Mike Beehler, and Tom Love have each showed time and again that they would be a disaster for Kansans' health care. All five candidates oppose expanding Medicaid and have promised to get rid of the entire Affordable Care Act, including its protections for over 330,000 people in KS-03 with pre-existing conditions.

At the same time, the candidates have failed to put together any kind of proactive plan to improve our health care system. In a recent questionnaire administered by the Kansas City Star, not a single candidate was able to put forward an alternative plan to the Affordable Care Act that would lower health care costs and protect people with pre-existing conditions - including coronavirus.

"As their Washington backers move forward with their lawsuit to get rid of the entire Affordable Care Act in the middle of a global pandemic, the Republicans running for Kansas' 3rd Congressional District are right there with them. If Amanda Adkins, Sara Hart Weir, Adrienne Foster, Mike Beehler, and Tom Love won't stand up to their party when people's health care is on the line, how can they be trusted to advocate for Kansans in Congress?" asked DCCC Spokesperson Brooke Goren.
