Democratic committeewoman picked to run for indicted ex-Alderman Jeffrey Boyd's seat [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
Jun. 16—ST. LOUIS —
Walker, who was picked Saturday by the city Democratic committee to run in a special election
"Norma has been a true servant for our community," Boyd said in the email, sent Tuesday. "We need her leadership to keep moving the ward forward. Although I'm no longer Alderman, I will always be available if you need me. I love my community."
Boyd began the email by saying "you may have heard I've resigned ... due to unfortunate circumstances."
He said he was proud of what he accomplished in his 19 years as an alderman, citing new housing in several locations, annual community picnics and new businesses in the ward.
In doing so, he said, he had the support of an elected leadership team that also includes Walker and ward committeeman
Boyd resigned
Walker could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
The Election Board has allowed political party committees to nominate candidates for aldermanic vacancies this year as specified in a city charter provision.
The charter has precedence over Proposition D, an ordinance passed by voters in 2020 that mandated nonpartisan elections for aldermen and some other key offices.
