Targeted News Service

POMONA, N.J., Sept. 30 -- Richard Stockton College of New Jersey issued the following news release:

Dean C. Pappas, a retired businessman and philanthropist, is the new chair of the Board of Trustees at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Pappas has been a trustee since 2006, most recently serving as vice chair. He and his wife, Zoe Sarbannes Pappas, donated $1 million to establish the Dean C. and Zoe S. Pappas Visiting Scholar Endowment Fund, which brings noted scholars and thought leaders to Stockton for classes, workshops and public events. Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was the inaugural speaker earlier this year.

Pappas is the chair of the Executive, Compensation, Nomination and Governance Committee and he has chaired the Academic Affairs and Planning Committee and the Development Committee, among his other leadership roles as a trustee.

Pappas was formerly chairman and co-Chief Executive Officer of Clement Pappas & Co., Inc., which is now a subsidiary of Lassonde Industries. The company supplies private label fruit juice beverages and cranberry sauce to wholesalers and retailers throughout North America.

He is a past chairman of the Food Processors Association, served as president of the National Juice Products Association, chairman of the Food Institute, New Jersey Food Processors Association, and The New Jersey Farm Workers Corp.

He served as chairman of the Philadelphia Presidents Organization and director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Salem, NJ. He also served on the Small Business and Agriculture Committees of the 3rd District of the Federal Reserve, and the board of New Jersey Agricultural Society.

Pappas is a graduate of Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ, where he served on the Board of Trustees, and of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. A native of Bridgeton, NJ, he and his wife now reside in Philadelphia. Madeleine (Mady) Deininger, an alumna of the Class of 1980 with a baccalaureate degree in Liberal Studies, takes over the role of vice chair. Deininger has been a member of the board since 2007. She is the founder and president of the Sonoma, California-based Kismet Wines, Inc. where she has developed a highly successful national marketing and sales program for Californian and European fine wines. Deininger also holds a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College and received an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, from Stockton.

Deininger is a general partner at Bedrock Vineyard, which supplies premium grapes for Ravenswood, Sebastiani and Simi wineries in Sonoma County. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors for the prestigious Blue Oak School in Napa County.

She is also a freelance writer and poet. She and her husband, Joel Peterson, sponsor the annual Ravenswood Poetry Reading Series at Stockton. She also helps sponsor The Schoolhouse Stomp Steppers Drill Team in Pleasantville and has helped sponsor the Margate Mother's ClubJuly 4thBeach Fireworks program.

Deininger and her family reside in Sonoma, CA and Margate, NJ. Curtis Bashaw, who has served on the Executive committee since 2006, and chaired the board for the past two years, became immediate past chair and an ex-officio member.

Under his leadership as chair, Stockton has expanded to three additional instructional sites, purchased Stockton Seaview, and realized record growth in enrollment, graduation rates, and faculty hires. The college also successfully completed a $25.36 million comprehensive fundraising campaign this year, and has increased its national reputation.

Bashaw is CEO and co-founder of Cape Advisors, Inc., a real estate development company located in Cape May, NJ and New York, NY. Bashaw's real estate projects focus on historic preservation and include the renovations of Congress Hall and the Virginia Hotel in Cape May, both of which he operates. As a highly successful hotelier and residential builder, Bashaw played an active role in helping to determine the design esthetic of the Campus Center and other campus renovations. He exhibited extraordinary leadership and service to Stockton, and has been a strong advocate of collaborations throughout the region, including in his home town of Cape May. Bashaw has been a member of the board since 2004. He also served as executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) from 2003-2005. He earned a Masters of Business Administration at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Literature at Wheaton College in Illinois.

Emma N. Byrne, a member of the Board of Trustees since 2005, is the board's new secretary. Byrne also serves as the college's trustee representative to the New Jersey Association of State Colleges and Universities Board (NJASCU).

She is the retired director of Corporate Communications and Federal Affairs for PSEG (Public Service Enterprise Group) of Newark, N.J. where she had responsibility for the federal legislative agenda of PSEG, as well as its external and internal communications, and corporate advertising and branding program.
