COVID-19: Presidential Declaration for the State of California

Mar. 25--This was executed on Sunday. The two items I found of interest is that they backdated the incident to Jan. 20, 2020. Which will help the state in cost recovery. Interesting that they went back that far (I didn't think the feds thought there was an issue back then!). The other is the limitation on individual assistance, for which there will be great need, to crisis counseling. Other "individual assistance" will be coming via the bill being discussed and wrangled about in Congress right now.

Today, March 22, 2020, President Donald J. Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of California triggering the release of Federal funds to help people and communities recover from COVID-19 that occurred January 20, 2020, and continuing. Details of the disaster declaration and assistance programs are as follows:

Individual Assistance (IA): (Assistance to individuals and households):

IA-Designated Areas: Individual Assistance limited to the Crisis Counseling Program in all areas in the State of California.

Public Assistance (PA): (Assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities):

PA-Designated Areas: Emergency protective measures (Category B) not authorized under other Federal statutes, including direct federal assistance, under the Public Assistance program at 75 percent federal funding for all areas in the State of California.

Hazard Mitigation (HM): (Assistance for actions taken to prevent or reduce long term risk to life and property from natural hazards):

HM-Designated Areas: Under review

OTHER: Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further assessments.
