The study could provide insight into how the city can improve upon services already available to residents while maintaining fiscal responsibilities and fostering intergovernmental cooperation, even if the commissioners decide against consolidation at a later date. Participating in the study does not obligate cities to consolidate.
"I want to stress that participating in the study does not obligate the city to any form of consolidation," Anderson said. "However, I do think that participating in the study is a good idea, if nothing else, to assure that we are providing the best service possible for our citizens."
