Congressman Green’s Statement on Latest GOP Amendment to Repeal Affordable Care Act
Congressional Documents & Publications
WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Gene Green released the following statement on the House Republicans' new amendment to repeal the Affordable Care Act:
"Once again, House Republicans have confirmed that their approach to fixing health care requires gutting key protecting for people with pre-existing conditions, shortening the life of the Medicare Trust Fund, increasing costs and offering fewer protections," said Green.
"If signed into law, this TrumpCare bill will no longer require states to offer care for people with mental health or substance abuse disorders and will allow insurers to charge older Americans five times more than younger people. The devastating effect this amendment will have on working families across the country will make it more difficult to afford high-quality health insurance and will lead to more Americans without the care they deserve.
"I'm concerned with the legitimacy of the amendment. If Republicans thought their TrumpCare bill was so great why would they exempt members of Congress and their staff from its effects? The text in the amendment is even more harmful to Americans than the last bill that failed a few weeks ago and I don't think we should have a vote on the bill until we receive an updated CBO score."
