April 05--A regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commissioners Monday morning focused on the purchase and disposal of county equipment, as well as county employee insurance policies.
A bid was accepted for the purchase of Cherokee County Fire Department bunker gear, by CASCO Industries Inc., at $1,534 per set.
A resolution was approved to agree to use the use tax funds to purchase backhoes for the Solid Waste Department.
The board also agreed to purchase a 2017 Ford Escape for the county's Community Sentencing Planning Council.
American Fidelity Assurance will serve as sole-source provider for the county's compliance Section 125, as the resolution was approved 2-1.
Under a Section 125 Plan, employees may deduct some of their insurance premiums on a pre-tax basis from wages, and set aside pre-tax funds to use toward qualified medial and dependent day care expenses. The county did not make a long-term contract with AFA, but an annual one, so officials can decide to do away with the deal after a year.
"I think it's worth trying one time and seeing if it works," said Clif Hall, District 3 Commissioner.
The commissioners also discussed possibly acquiring an emergency air transportation policy with AirMedCare Network for county employees and their families. The board decided to table the discussion.
