Ciscomani among bipartisan House coalition urges action on ACA premium increases
Staff ReportsHerald/Review
WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of 35 House members led by Representatives Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and Jen Kiggans (R-VA) sent a letter to congressional leadership urging immediate action to prevent steep health insurance premium increases facing millions of Americans in January 2026.
The lawmakers called for both chambers to consider their "CommonGround 2025: A Bipartisan Health Care Framework," which includes a one-year extension of enhanced Premium Tax Credits, anti-fraud guardrails, expanded transparency requirements and improvements to open enrollment outreach, according to Ciscomani's office. The framework also outlines a second year of premium savings through expanded health savings accounts paired with additional reforms.
The letter emphasizes urgency, noting that many Americans have already received notifications of significant premium increases during the current open enrollment period if Congress fails to act by December 18, 2025.
"Families in Arizona and across the country are already feeling the strain of rising costs, and Congress must step up to prevent their health insurance premiums from skyrocketing," said Ciscomani.
The letter was addressed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, according to the congressman's office.
The coalition includes members from both parties representing districts across multiple states, reflecting broad concern over rising healthcare costs affecting constituents nationwide.
