Cary man, arrested on stolen-check charges, now faces drug accusation

March 21--RALEIGH -- An 18-year-old Cary resident was charged with having 28 grams of marijuana "wax" at his home a day after Wake County sheriff's investigators had charged him with six counts of stealing and forging endorsements on checks made out to insurance companies and others.

Brandon Oneil Cadet was charged Friday with the felony drug possession. He was being held at the Wake County Detention Center on the check charges, for which he had been arrested Thursday.

An arrest warrant also charged Cadet with using a bedroom in the house where he lives, at 116 Singer Way, as a place to keep drugs.

Investigators said the concentrated marijuana represented 280 doses of the drug.

The check charges resembled ones filed last month against Carl Edwin Parker, Jr., 22, who investigators said had admitted to them that he stole at least 70 checks from people's mailboxes before they were picked up.

Parker also said he had a network of people who deposited the stolen checks through ATM machines to avoid having tellers examine the payees and the endorsers of the checks, according to a search warrant in the case.

The arrest warrants that made the check charges against Cadet all said the offenses happened March 2.

Another person was arrested Monday on stolen-check charges like those against Parker and Cadet.

Deputies accused Adonis Savone Adkins Jr., 20, of 3029 Freeport Drive in Cary with stealing a check on Feb. 17 and forging an endorsement of it.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison said Monday that the case against Parker was part of an ongoing investigation, and he declined to comment on whether the check-theft and forgery charges against Cadet and Adkins were related.

With the drug-possession charge, Cadet's total bail was $250,000, and he was scheduled for a court appearance Monday.

Adkins was free on bail when investigators charged him Monday. Cary police had charged him in February with robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery, burglary, false imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit felony larceny.

He is scheduled for an April 13 court appearance on those charges.

He was being held on $80,000 bail on the check charges and was scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday.
