WOOSTER -- Tod Carmony of Wooster was presented with the NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award by the Buckeye Council during the annual meeting.

The award recognizes Eagle Scouts who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the local, state or regional level.

Major General (Ret) Tod J. He was one of several cadets who completed the Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., immediately following ROTC Advance Camp. He also completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School and the Junior Motor Officer Course before reporting to his first duty station with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

Carmony was an executive officer with the 1st Cavalry and the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea as commander, A Company, 1/31st Infantry. His unit was known as the Wild Bunch and served tours on the DMZ.

Leaving active duty in 1978, he returned to his hometown of Wooster and joined Wayne Mutual Insurance Co. In 1996, he was appointed president of the company, a position he holds today.

His duties were to assist the division commander in exercising command and control of 15,000 National Guard soldiers as they rendered assistance to the communities and citizens of the State of Mississippi.

In the fall of 2008, Carmony was promoted to major general and assigned as commanding general, 38th Infantry Division. In October 2011, Carmony turned over command of the 38th Infantry Division and retired from active duty with 39 years of service.

Carmony's military awards include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab and Parachutist Badge.
