SACRAMENTO, California, July 9 -- California Association of Health Plans issued the following statement by President and CEO Charles Bacchi on individual health coverage premiums for 2020:
Covered California today announced preliminary health insurance rates for 2020, citing an average weighted statewide rate change of 8 percent, the lowest premium increase since the exchange was established in 2014.
"Covered California's announcement today of historically low preliminary premium rate growth of less than one percent demonstrates the strong partnership between Governor Newsom, Covered California, the Legislature, and health plans, on making health care more affordable for all Californians".
"Among our top priorities for improving health care affordability were stabilizing the market and protecting the Affordable Care Act by enacting a state based individual mandate, increasing subsidies for low income Californians, and expanding coverage to California's remaining uninsured. We're pleased that all of these important measures are creating real results that are helping thousands more Californians obtain and better afford their health coverage."
"We look forward to building on the gains we have achieved in California's health care marketplace. With 93 percent of the Californians covered by health insurance, we are making steady progress toward covering the remaining uninsured."
