By the numbers: FEMA assistance for ENC

Oct. 29--Since their arrival in Eastern North Carolina in response to Hurricane Florence, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been working to get state and federal funds to those in need -- but the deadline to apply is approaching.

FEMA has been helping out in individual cases, including providing home inspections and setting families up with temporary housing, as well overall funds, in the form of flood insurance and federal grants.

"It's a huge undertaking," Jann Tracey, FEMA external affairs specialist, said. "And when you consider that, the magnitude of it ... that is a great accomplishment."

According to the most recent numbers available from FEMA, the assistance provided to Carteret, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow and Pender counties so far is approximately:

Carteret County

* State and federal funds: $51 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $6 million to 2,000 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $23 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 1,100 since Sept. 29 (Beaufort) and 447 since Oct. 6 (Newport)

* DRC location: Board of Elections Building on 1702 Live Oak St. in Beaufort and Newport Town Hall parking lot on 20 Howard Blvd. in Newport. The Newport DRC will permanently close at 6 p.m. Nov. 2.

Craven County

* State and federal funds: $138.5 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $14.5 million to 3,500 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $86 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 2,237 since Sept. 28 (New Bern) and 295 since Oct. 10 (Havelock)

* DRC location: Eckerd's Drug Store at 710 Degrafenreid Ave. in New Bern and the former Rue21 store at 537 Hwy 70 W., Suite 103 in Havelock

Duplin County

* State and federal funds: $45.1 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $10.8 million to 1,400 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $12.3 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: These numbers were not available by deadline

* DRC location: Wallace Presbyterian Church at 205 W. Main St. in Wallace

Jones County

* State and federal funds: $19 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $4.4 million to 650 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $4.8 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 940 since Sept. 27

* DRC location: County Civic Center at 794 Hwy 58 South in Trenton

Lenoir County

* State and federal funds: $4.3 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $896,000 to 390 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $2.8 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 270 since Oct. 4

* DRC location: Kinston Diagnostic Group at 109 Airport Road in Kinston

Onslow County

* State and federal funds: $38.7 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $9.6 million to 2,500 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $9.7 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 2,160 since Sept. 23

* DRC location: Piney Green Shopping Center at 175 Freedom Way, 18A in Midway Park in Jacksonville

Pender County

* State and federal funds: $59.3 million

* Homeowners who have received help: $14 million to 2,400 residents

* Flood insurance claims paid: $20.4 million

* Number of people the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) has helped: 508 since Oct. 5

* DRC location: Pender County Agriculture Auditorium at 801 S. Walker St. in Burgaw

All of the Disaster Recovery Centers are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and the deadline to apply for assistance for all counties is Nov. 13.
