Record-Eagle, The (Traverse City, MI)

May 10--Larkin Group Agency of the Year

LANSING -- The Accident Fund Insurance Company of America recognized The Larkin Group of Traverse City as its 2016 Agency of the Year.

The Larkin Group of Traverse City, located at 13900 S.W. Bay Shore Dr., was also a 2016 President's Club recipient, registering a written premium of $5.7 million in 2016.

The Accident Fund Insurance Company of America is licensed in all 50 states and partners with more than 1,300 independent agents.

Ribbon cutting event in Bellaire

BELLAIRE -- Lel's Lil Treasure Trove in Bellaire will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 12, at noon.

Located at 101 North Bridge St., the store offers "treasures, trinkets and gifts."

According to its Facebook site, the store also features "hand-crafted items including bath and body products, sock monkeys and other sewn items, jewelry, custom vinyl shirts and mugs."

Money Series presentation slated

TRAVERSE CITY -- Chartered Financial Analyst Jason P. Tank will discuss ways to navigate the challenges and opportunities of retirement during a presentation on Wednesday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the McGuire Room of the Traverse Area District Library.

GT Band hosts water symposium

PESHAWBESTOWN -- The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will host a Line 5 Water Protectors Symposium on May 19 at the Leelanau Sands Casino in Peshawbestown.

The event is designed to bring together a number of Tribal leaders, First Nation chiefs, state legislators, nonprofits, youth and business leaders.

Michigan's Pipeline Safety Advisory Board releases its analysis reports in June about the pipeline at the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the program starting at 6:30 p.m. The symposium is free and open to the public.

'Elevated Impact' presentation set

BELLAIRE -- "Elevated Impact," a 2016 economic impact study of the Glacial Hills Pathway, will be presented to the public on Thursday, May 18, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Forest Home Township Hall Conference Room at 321 N. Bridge St. in Bellaire.

Research consultant Avenue ISR will present the study.

The event is hosted by the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of Glacial Hills and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy.

Benzie Business After Hours May 18

BEULAH -- The Benzie County Chamber of Commerce May Business After Hours will be held on Thursday, May 18, from 5-7 p.m. at the Darcy Library of Beulah at 7228 Commercial St.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, hors d'oeuvres and a $100 member raffle. A designated member representative must be present to win the member raffle.

Financial Capability marathon May 19

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency is hosting a Financial Capability Marathon on Friday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its Traverse City office at 3963 Three Mile Rd.

A different workshop will be held every hour to teach participants how to manage money, learn to build wealth and reduce expenses, plan for a financial future and to set goals like buying a home. Participants should bring a lunch if attending all day.

Presentation on da Vinci system set

GAYLORD -- Dr. James Shurlow, general surgeon at Otsego Memorial Hospital, will discuss the da Vinci Surgical System on Wednesday, May 10, 5-6 p.m. in the Professional Medical Building conference room at OMH.

A Munson Healthcare facility, OMH uses the robotic-assisted equipment to offer doctors more control during surgery.

Starcut Ciders announces events

ELK RAPIDS -- Starcut Ciders, a division of Short's Brewing, will hold a series of events showcasing the company's barrel-aged and wild ciders, Erraticus.

"Erraticus in the Wild" will be held throughout Short's and Starcut's distribution area. It will be the first time Erraticus ciders will be available for sale in bottles outside the Short's Brewing Company pub in Bellaire. All "Wild" events will feature Erraticus 10, a wild cider fermented with peach and cranberry that's aged in red wine barrels.

Meijer donates to Vogue Theatre

MANISTEE -- The Meijer Corporation has donated $50,000 to the Historic Vogue Theatre of Manistee, the nonprofit that operates the Vogue.

Funding will be used to reduce the cost of operations and strengthen the bottom line of the facility, which reopened in December of 2013.
