Brown Statement on President-Elect Trump Appointments of Price, Verma to Top Health Posts

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today issued the following statement on President-Elect Donald Trump's appointment of Congressman Tom Price to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Price has supported efforts to privatize Medicare and voted against the Children's Health Insurance Program which insures more than 130,000 Ohio children and families.

"To hand the reins to someone with Congressman Price's long record of trying to privatize Medicare is a direct betrayal of Donald Trump's campaign promise to protect and strengthen the program for America's seniors, and you can bet we will do everything in our power to block any attempt to hand the Medicare program that seniors have worked their whole lives for over to Wall Street," said Brown.

Trump also today appointed Seema Verma to serve as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), who was the architect of the conservative approach to Indiana's Medicaid expansion.

"We cannot put the healthcare of more than 600,000 Ohioans who rely on Medicaid and more than 130,000 Ohio children and families who rely on CHIP in the hands of Seema Verma, who has spent the last 20 years making it harder for families to get the care they need," said Brown.
