BRIEF: Three hospitalized after highway patrol officer in Justin Trudeau’s motorcade crashes in California

Feb. 10--Three people were hospitalized Friday after a member of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's motorcade collided with a car in California.

A highway patrol officer was on a motorcycle escorting Trudeau's vehicle through Simi Valley around 7:20 p.m. when a woman in a Toyota made a left turn in front of the motorcade, ABC reported.

The two vehicles collided, and the officer, along with the woman and her son, were all taken to the hospital.

The officer sustained "moderate" injuries, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

Michael Sternberg, who was also in the Toyota at the time of the crash, told ABC his wife's neck was in serious pain, while his son's wrists might be broken.

Trudeau, who was not injured or involved in the crash, was leaving the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, where he delivered a speech highlighting the importance of trade between US and Canada.

Trudeau offered a counterpoint to Trump's threats to pull out of NAFTA, and promoted Canada as a destination for California tech companies uneasy with the president's immigration policies.

Trudeau, who is on a four-day trip to the U.S., will travel about 40 miles to visit Los Angeles on Friday.
