BRIEF: Surf Golf and Beach Club loses maintenance equipment in fire
Sun News (Myrtle Beach, SC)
Oct. 21--NORTH MYRTLE BEACH -- The Surf Golf and Beach Club lost some maintenance equipment in a fire Tuesday night that burned an addition to the main maintenance building.
Surf Club general manager Tom Prough said about eight pieces of grounds maintenance equipment, including a rough mower and tractor with a blower, were burned in the fire, which was discovered around 9:30 p.m. by a person walking on an adjacent road. Golf was played as scheduled Wednesday on the private course, which Prough said has insurance for the lost equipment.
According to the city of North Myrtle Beach, the city's fire department was still conducting interviews and gathering an equipment inventory late Wednesday afternoon, and the cause of the fire was undetermined.
The fire was exacerbated by an estimated 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid and 20 gallons of gasoline in the equipment that burned. The fire follows a flood on the course that kept the front nine closed from Oct. 2-18.
