Nov. 29--SUNNYSIDE -- Investigators are still working to determine what caused a fire that gutted two Sunnyside businesses earlier this month.
Sunnyside Fire Chief Aaron Markham said a dog trained to sniff out accelerants went through both buildings without finding anything.
"Now we are just waiting to coordinate our investigation efforts with the property owner's insurance investigators," Markham said Monday.
A decision on whether to demolish the building is also pending a decision by the insurance company, said Diana Atherton, the city's building permit technician.
Firefighters said the fire started around 8:30 p.m.Nov. 19 in the back of Elena's Party Supply and spread through a common attic to Antojitos Michoacan restaurant, gutting the two businesses at 420 and 418 S. Sixth St.
Firefighters from Granger, Grandview, Toppenish and Prosser brought the blaze under control around midnight.
