CURRIE -- A Pender County man was arrested May 21 in an alleged insurance fraud scheme in New Hanover County.
Michael McIntyre, 50, of Currie is charged with one count of insurance fraud, one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and one count of acting as an adjuster without a license, according to a news release from the NC Department of Insurance.
Criminal investigators with the department allege that, between October 2015 and January 2016, McIntyre fraudulently attempted to obtain more than $34,000 by submitting false information about damage to a Wilmington home, according to a release.
During that time, he allegedly acted as an adjuster without having a license to do so and intentionally inflated repair estimates and instructed the homeowners to submit settlement checks directly to him, the release said.
He was being held on $10,000 bail, according to the release.
