BRIEF: Pawcatuck man charged with DWI after crash that knocked out power

Oct. 05--STONINGTON -- Police charged a Pawcatuck man with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs Tuesday night after they said he struck another car and caused a power outage.

Martin Garcia-Nava, 24, of 120 Liberty St., Apt. 1, also was charged with reckless driving, failure to drive right, driving without minimum insurance and failure to renew his registration. He was released on a $600 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Oct. 14.

According to police, they responded to a report of a two-car crash at the intersection of Liberty and Morgan streets at 10:15 p.m.

Police said Garcia was speeding north on Liberty Street when a car turned left onto Liberty Street from Morgan Street. They said Garcia's car rear-ended the other car, forcing it off the road where it struck a guide wire for a utility pole. The impact knocked out power for a period of time. There were no injuries.
