BRIEF: Online database focuses on patient privacy breaches

Dec. 31--Patient privacy violation findings involving hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and insurers locally and across the nation are listed online in a new searchable database.

Part of a project from the ProPublica investigative news organization, the HIPAA Helper database lists patient privacy complaints, breaches and violations.

Data comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the California Department of Public Health and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
