BRIEF: NEW: Ted Cruz came to Mar-a-Lago Saturday for health care negotiation
Palm Beach Post (FL)
March 19--President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach was the site Saturday of negotiations on the Trump administration's proposed health care bill, Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday morning.
Speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation," Cruz told host John Dickerson that he traveled to Mar-a-Lago on Saturday with two fellow Republican lawmakers, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina. Cruz said the trio discussed health care with Trump's team.
"Just yesterday I spent three hours at Mar-a-Lago with Mike Lee and Mark Meadows negotiating with the president's team, trying to fix this bill," Cruz said.
The Texan earlier in the conversation said premiums were his "number one issue" with health care, adding that he is concerned the current House bill will not pass the Senate, and that the proposed legislation does not address the cost of premiums.
"I've got to tell you, if Republicans hold a big press conference and pat ourselves on the back that we've repealed Obamacare and everyone's premiums keep going up, people will be ready to tar and feather us in the streets," Cruz said. "And quite rightly."
He added that he "cannot vote for any bill that keeps premiums rising."
